Welcome to Tomorrow

We believe that effective leaders don't simply seek "jobs"; they seek organizations with a compelling story, exceptional colleagues, and room for continued growth. As you scroll through this page, you will gain a better understanding of Journey Group's narrative, where the company has been, and where it is going.

Chief Revenue Officer

Journey Group

Journey Group is a well-respected 115-year-old diversified commercial construction firm that generates ~$400M in annual revenue, employs ~400 people, and is currently at a significant inflection point, building on a legacy of stability while intentionally reshaping how it operates and grows. Based out of Sioux Falls, SD, and initially known as Sioux Falls Construction Co., Journey Group has been long known for its high-quality execution, and trust-based client relationships thriving through discipline, minimal-to-no debt, and a very conservative leadership ethos. Today, the company is looking to build on those solid roots by driving more innovation, accountability, talent development, calculated risk-taking, and scalability to position the firm for strategic expansion and exciting growth.

The Chief Revenue Officer role is absolutely critical and central to this transformation, as Journey Group's newly appointed CEO (Brian Gramm) looks to break down "divisional silos", centralizing senior leadership over commercial ("Get Work") and operations ("Do Work") teams. This is not a passive, gatekeeping position, but an entrepreneurial builder's role designed to bring business development and marketing accountability, and scalability, to the business. Journey Group seeks a CRO who is comfortable with ambiguity as they leverage the power of a 115 year highly-trusted brand while building effective and efficient sales and marketing prowess on top of that foundation.  As Journey Group pursues a long-term vision of reaching $1B in revenue over the next 7–10 years through segmentation, geographical expansion, and selective M&A, the CRO will have a seat at the table as a driver who turns strategy into consistent, high-performing commercial operations across the organization.

Journey Group's Market Position

Journey Group is a century-old, full-service construction company headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that specializes in delivering a wide range of building and infrastructure projects across the Upper Midwest and nationwide. Founded in 1910 and rooted in strong community values, the firm operates multiple divisions offering general, commercial, industrial, civil, and asphalt construction services, and is known for major work in sectors such as healthcare, education, government, manufacturing, and heavy civil infrastructure. The company emphasizes trust, long-term relationships, and transparent communication with clients, combining deep regional expertise with modern construction technologies to meet diverse project needs. With a mission to “positively impact lives by building community,” Journey Group blends traditional craftsmanship with an expansive service portfolio and a commitment to fiscal stewardship, integrity, and teamwork.

Journey Group's History

Journey Group's roots trace back to 1910 when they were founded as Sioux Falls Construction Co., making it one of the oldest general construction companies in the United States. From its early years building prominent local Sioux Falls landmarks, such as the Orpheum Theater and Central Fire Station, the firm expanded through the 20th century into public infrastructure, educational facilities, hospitals, and interstate bridge work, weathering economic ups and downs by diversifying its services. Over time, the company broadened its geographic reach and service offerings across commercial, civil, and asphalt construction, and in 2014 it rebranded to Journey Group to reflect its evolving identity and regional growth.

Journey's Industry Fit

Journey Group is well positioned within the construction industry as a diversified, end-to-end builder capable of delivering complex projects across commercial, industrial, civil, and infrastructure markets. Its integrated model, combining general contracting, some self-perform capabilities, and specialized divisions, allows the firm to serve both public and private sector clients with consistency, speed, and accountability. With deep expertise in healthcare, education, government, manufacturing, and transportation, Journey Group aligns strongly with sectors that demand scale, safety, and long-term reliability. This breadth, paired with a relationship-driven approach and strong regional roots, enables Journey Group to compete effectively in an evolving industry that values trusted partners, technical excellence, and community impact.

Journey's Scale

Journey Group is a sizable and growing construction services company, generating just under $400 million in annual revenue with approximately 400 employees. The organization operates as a collection of construction-related businesses, anchored by its core general contracting arm, Journey Construction, alongside paving (Black-Top Paving), and Civil Construction (SFC Civil Construction) operating divisions. With a strong regional footprint and diversified service mix, Journey Group has established itself as a mid-to-large-scale construction platform, providing the financial strength, talent base, and operational capacity to support complex projects. Looking ahead, the company has set an ambitious growth target to scale to $1+ billion in revenue over the next 7+ years.

Forward Looking

As a company built on decades of tenure and community commitment, Journey Group's team makes decisions with a perspective that prioritizes durability, trust, and legacy over simple short-term wins. Alongside long-term thinking, the company's leadership team seeks talent that is forward-thinking and can help drive modern commercial construction practices that set the company apart on the national playing field.

Performance & Growth

Journey Group has a long-standing reputation of being a fair, honest, and team-oriented company.  As the organization drives a slight shift in culture, it looks to maintain those core people-oriented tenants while placing a stronger emphasis on talent development and growth, valuing aspiration, curiosity, willingness to stretch, and calculated risk-taking while helping prepare the next generation of senior leadership talent while the company expands aggressively.

A Day in the Life

The Chief Revenue Officer at Journey Group plays a central role in shaping how the company grows into its next phase, particularly shaping how it "Gets Work". This is a builder’s role, focused less on day-to-day selling and more on creating clarity and cohesion around growth, turning strong relationships and a solid reputation into a more intentional, scalable commercially viable revenue engine. The CRO partners closely with the CEO, Board, and leadership team to define where Journey Group should focus—by market, sector, and opportunity—and ensures the go-to-market strategy supports that direction. The role aligns business development, marketing, and commercial strategy, helping the organization pursue the right work more consistently and tell a sharper, more compelling story in the market. Because the role is new, the CRO also acts as a unifier and change agent, adding structure without bureaucracy and strategy without diluting the company’s entrepreneurial culture. They will also build a strong team, initially including Business Development (Project Executives), Preconstruction/Estimating, and Marketing & Communications. Success shows up as momentum around clearer pipelines, better-qualified opportunities, and a growth approach that reflects Journey Group’s long-term vision. At its core, the CRO helps Journey Group shift from growing organically to growing intentionally, setting the foundation for sustainable, confident expansion in the years ahead.
