The Digital Integration function at Mortenson is redefining the way building owners, CIOs, and real estate developers realize the value of technology design executed real-time during new construction projects which requires the team to attract and retain high level talent as the business continues to grow.

History

Founded in 1954, Mortenson Construction is a U.S.-based, private, family-owned construction company. Travis Pakonen

Senior Design Phase Manager (Direct Manager)

Travis is a seasoned low-voltage technology subject matter expert, and talented leader, with 20 years of experience supporting unique low voltage project initiatives across varying industry verticals. Travis recently joined Mortenson, adding extensive institutional knowledge and experience in LV system discovery, design, and build. He is RCDD certified providing detailed counsel and guidance to prospective customers in all phases of a project. His immediate ability to support net-new business development opportunities at Mortenson is driving continued growth for the Digital Integration division.  As a leader, Travis is communicative, thoughtful, present, and engaged. He truly takes care of his people and is a strong believer in investing in learning and development opportunities for continued growth. Travis is the direct hiring leader and this DPM position will report to him.

Jason Jennings

General Manager, Digital Integration

Leading the charge of the Digital Integration division at Mortenson is Jason Jennings, an exceptionally talented and pedigreed leader who is laser focused on driving the growth of the team and the Digital Integration portfolio of business. He is a strong brand builder and a consultative P&L owner with a track record of success helping enterprise corporations capitalize on new business ideas and growth. With foundational experience mainly in notable consumer driven organizations including Target, General Mills, and 3M, Jason brings fresh perspective and innovative thinking to Mortenson, necessary characteristics for leading a ground-breaking initiative like building the Digital Integration function. He is a forward-thinking visionary leader who encourages his team to consider the "art of the possible", and challenges his cross-functional peers to support customers in new and unique ways. Jason is an incredibly highly respected senior leader on Mortenson's innovation team.

A Day in the Life

Due to recent growth, Travis, Jason and the broader Digital Integration team seek to add a Design Phase Engineer to the team to support net new client-partnerships. The work you’ll do in this role will be an integral part of driving the enterprise technology servicing offering across industries. Your expertise will directly impact the strategic growth and continued progress of low-voltage technologies from design to build within Mortenson. Using your skills and areas of expertise, you will have the opportunity to significantly expand this critical business. In an effort to allow Travis to continue to excel in front-end discovery and the growth of the portfolio of opportunities, this DPE industry expert will collaborate with Travis and broader team after new business opportunities are secured and drive the continuation of discovery, creative design and ideation process with client and internal teams, and oversee the execution and quality of the implementation and customer experience post-implementation. In addition, as this team continues to grow, they seek for an individual who has long runway, is driven by curiosity, and can learn from industry experts, like Travis and others, to grow in their own career and leadership capacity within this organization. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the owner in realizing “The Art of Possible” when it comes to LV technology and where it can benefit their business
  • Translate the owner's vision into a constructible design solution within the overall project scope, budget, and schedule
  • Act as primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and low voltage / IT trade partners during the design phase

  • Promote and facilitate open communication and issue resolution between team members
  • Provide direction and input on preferred construction means, methods, and materials for incorporation into the construction document
  • Provide direction and input when it comes to hardware and software of the low voltage systems.
  • Identify specific systems that make sense per customer requirements (i.e., Johnson Controls, Schneider etc.)
  • Provide input which supports overall project constructability and logistics
  • Obtain, review, and coordinate information from design assist trade partners
  • Incorporate low voltage and IT trade partner recommendations and preferences into design documents where appropriate
  • Assist the estimating team in translating the low voltage and IT design solution into technical and financial cost documentation
  • Coordinate the efforts of multiple design entities contracted with Mortenson
  • Coordinate, review, and submit design documents to the owner

Requirements

  • General understanding of multiple low voltage or IT systems and how they can be integrated to work together with capability to learn more. Systems may include, but are not limited to: DAS, Wi-Fi, GPON, CCTV, access control and the cabling infrastructure to support these systems.
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks
  • Risk management skills
